Its an autobiography, and its a documentary about Chinese martial arts. However, the pacing is painfully slow, and the film uses slow motion so often I thought it’d never end.

If you’ve seen The Raid 2 or The Night Comes for Us, this might be your next pick. Unfortunately, its nowhere near as good as either option.

This stars a man who did not come to act, but one who came to fight. It’s about 10% other people talking, 3% poison and maybe 2% arrows, but the other 85% is kicking someone in the head, breaking bones, or swinging swords.
It gets really flashy from the get go to pull you in but doesn’t carry it well through the film. Its still a good movie, but it doesn’t feel like it should carry “Ip Man Legacy” with barely any Wing Chun on display.

The first Donnie Yen entry as Ip Man has all of the hallmarks of a great film. The story, action, emotion, and even musical score will draw you in if you have any interest in wing chun or the martial arts genre in general.

If you like action and martial arts but have also grown tired of zombies being used in media so as to be acceptable to the public, well, they don’t do that in this movie.
